TOKYO - August 19, 2024 - DMM Crypto, a Web3-focused subsidiary of the multibillion-dollar Japanese conglomerate, DMM Group, today announced a partnership with Hivemapper to bring decentralized, blockchain-based mapping and associated services to the Japanese market.

DMM Crypto was established to spearhead DMM Group’s Web3 business, including blockchain games and NFT projects. DMM Crypto’s first major initiative was the launch of Seamoon Protocol - a blockchain-based gaming and entertainment platform featuring DMM Group’s industry-leading titles.

Hivemapper crowdsources roadmapping data by installing dashcams on the vehicles of individual civilian motorists and fleet operators and uses artificial intelligence to integrate the data into real-time street maps. Drivers who contribute data to the project earn rewards in the form of cryptocurrency tokens called HONEY. Third-party organizations can access Hivemapper data for a fee - early private-sector adopters include navigation services, home delivery, real estate and autonomous vehicles. Hivemapper has successfully mapped approximately 150 million kilometers since launching in 2022, which is more than nearly five times faster than conventional map services.

Under the terms of the partnership, DM2C will manage Hivemapper dash cam distribution, operate the Hivemapper fleet business, provide customer support and regulatory compliance services and lead business development efforts in Japan and other select Asian markets.
The companies also intend to launch a variety of pilot projects spanning decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePin), drive-to-earn programs and Hivemapper fleet expansion in partnership with Japan’s auto industry, which is the fourth-largest in the world.
